LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Feb. 23 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- In the world of real-estate, it's all about location. However when the location is online, the old rules no longer apply. As the internet surges into another growth spurt, industries are finding new solutions to their economic questions on the world wide web. That is what happened to Kim and Dave Snoddy, the owners of Oldham County Nursery near Louisville, Kentucky. When they decided that it was time to liquidate their 127 acre nursery facility in Crestwood, Kentucky, they didn't turn to one of the hundreds of local auctioneers and auction houses. The Snoddy's got online and looked west - 2000 miles west to Woodland, California and the online auction company West Auctions.
Oldham County Nursery was founded in 1991, and almost tripled in size in just over a decade. The nursery specialized in trees and shrubs for landscapers, developers, and wholesalers and the real-estate development in the area over the last decade kept a constant demand on the nursery industry. However, that very growth has changed the nature of doing business for Oldham County Nursery.
Located a few miles out of Louisville, the property that the nursery occupies has appreciated to the point that the land out-values the business on it. This left the Snoddy's facing some tough decisions. With an operation that employed 30 people and produced over 30,000 field grown trees and shrubs and 80,000 container plants, liquidation was no small operation. That's when they turned to westauction.com for answers.
"There are a few things we'll be doing differently," said West Auctions' Dennis West in reference to the March 14 auction. "Spring is fast approaching and we need to liquidate the plant material before it goes into full bloom. Our goal is to sell the live goods in large lots that are attractive to wholesale buyers across the nation." Of course it won't only be wholesale plant buyers bidding at this online auction.
In nearby La Grange, local businesses are paying close attention to the vehicles, farm equipment and shop tools that will also be auctioned off. Nurseries and greenhouse operators across the nation are expressing interest in the specialized nursery equipment and the 17 high-tech greenhouses that will be sold as well.
