COLUMBIA, MO – June 21 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Over 150 students from more than 70 Missouri High Schools will participate in the 21st Annual Missouri Business Week (MBW), to be held in Columbia, June 25-29 on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. MBW is sponsored by the CENTER for Education & Private Enterprise(R), the not-for-profit foundation of the Missouri Association of REALTORS(R).
Designed for students who have completed their sophomore or junior year of high school, MBW affords participants the chance to experience the world of business through realistic marketing and management simulations.. Challenging workshops, team-building, and goal-setting create an enjoyable, but effective learning environment in which students can test their business skills. Upon arrival, they’re divided into “companies” and with a professional advisor, make decisions about the manufacturing and marketing of a “product,” competing with the other companies.
A $500 scholarship, which includes food, material, supplies, and housing, is awarded throughout the state to students chosen by their teachers and school administrators. The fast-paced, five-day conference has members of each company promoting their products by writing and producing 30-second television commercials, creating a company website, and exhibiting at their own trade show. An awards assembly on the final day of the program will recognize students for their outstanding achievement over the past week.
MBW is made possible through the efforts of Missouri’s REALTORS(R), who contribute the funds so each student to attend on full scholarship. Lending institutions, service clubs, foundations, small businesses, and major corporations also donate to the event. Missouri Business Week is co-sponsored by the University of Missouri College of Business, and is endorsed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce.
