About Connecting Through Dance
Founded five years ago by dance instructor, Gene Russo, and Joan Schubin, Connecting Through Dance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that bridges the gaps created by race, creed, color, sexual orientation, disabilities, and generations, through the experience and principles of partner dancing. Studies indicate dance can improve a person’s sense of balance and strength, but for the visually impaired, the rewards go beyond the body.
Visually impaired dancers build self-confidence and a sense of connection within themselves and with others when they participate in dancing, but the opportunities for dancing in an environment where the instructor and sighted partners are sensitive to the visually impaired dancer’s needs are far and few between. Connecting Through Dance (CTD) provides such an environment and thus both sighted and visually impaired participants reap the benefits of dance: balance, teamwork and confidence.
