ATLANTA, Ga., Nov. 11 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes, a lawyer and a Democratic candidate for governor, will speak Tuesday, November 24, 2009 to the Georgia Association of Business Brokers (GABB), Georgia’s only professional organization dedicated to buying and selling businesses and franchises.
Georgia’s 80th governor is campaigning for his old job back, campaigning on a return to values, more jobs, transportation solutions and “an education system that gives hope to another generation.”
“Our values and our way of life are compromised when people care more about special interests than the needs of our children,” says Barnes in a campaign appeal. “So it is our obligation to join together in a fight to protect the qualities that once made us the envy of the South.”
“We must join together in a movement that will require Democrats, Republicans and Independents to meet for a common cause…our great state,” says Barnes.
Barnes will address the GABB’s monthly meeting at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at the South Terraces Conference Center, 115 Perimeter Center Place, Atlanta, Georgia 30346. The meeting is open to the public at no charge; networking time begins at 9:45 a.m. with a light breakfast before the meeting, which starts at 10:30 a.m.
The Georgia Association of Business Brokers (GABB) is the state’s only professional organization and Multiple Listing Service dedicated to buying and selling businesses and franchises. An experienced GABB business broker can help a buyer find businesses for sale, negotiate a fair price and obtain financing. A broker can help an owner evaluate and price a business, market and advertise to prospective buyers, negotiate and close a deal. The GABB Web site (www.gabb.org) lists hundreds of businesses for sale throughout Georgia, as well as around the country.
About Roy Barnes:
Roy Barnes was born and raised in Mableton, Georgia, where his family farmed in addition to running the store. After earning an undergraduate degree and a law degree from the University of Georgia, he served as a prosecutor in the Cobb County District Attorney’s office. He then served eight terms in the State Senate and six years in the State House of Representatives before being elected to serve as governor in 1998.
As governor, Roy worked to raise academic standards and reduce classroom size. In healthcare, he passed legislation that increased patients’ right to choose their physicians and held insurance companies accountable for providing prompt healthcare. Roy also strengthened economic support for rural families by successfully implementing tax cuts for family farms and establishing a sales tax holiday for Georgia.
After leaving office, Roy devoted six months to Atlanta Legal Aid before returning to the practice of law, which he has done through the establishment of The Barnes Law Group with his daughter. He was honored with the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation Profile in Courage Award in 2003.
Roy and his wife, Marie, live close to their three children and five (soon to be six!) grandchildren. The family attends the First United Methodist Church of Marietta.
