LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Oct. 4 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — IBM’s Partner with IBM in Education program (PIE) and HENAAC are joining forces in the Fall of 2005 to take the Viva Technology Program to six states where IBM facilities are located. HENAAC will receive a $150,000 grant from IBM to produce these Viva Technology programs. This partnership will formally be announced at the 17th Annual HENAAC Conference in Anaheim, CA from October 6-8, 2005.
Working together, IBM employees and HENAAC will use Viva Technology’s innovative programs to inspire young minds to pursue careers in science, engineering, technology and math. The new partnership will target students in California, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, New York and Texas.
The individual programs will feature guest speakers and professional volunteers from IBM, as well as science and engineering students from major surrounding universities. The Viva Technology team will also guide the students through a series of fun and competitive challenges designed to help them learn about engineering and science.
About Viva Technology: The Viva Technology Program features informative sessions for parents and students that touch on relevant topics such as college admissions, scholarships, work study programs and other subjects that will enable parents to guide students to better prepare for technical degree programs and for their corresponding careers in engineering and science.
Since its debut in 2001, the Viva Technology Program has been conducted at over 40 sites across the nation, including locations in Northern and Southern California, Nevada, Texas, Chicago, Louisiana, Ohio, New Jersey and Florida, with several more pending scheduling in this calendar year. Last year, HENAAC launched its first Viva Technology after-school program at John Adams and Pacoima Middle Schools, two Los Angeles Unified School District schools.
