TMF Business Agility Catalyst Project uses the SID model to simplify and accelerate integration of a fulfillment solution scenario defined by Covad Communications, France Telecom, and Internap
NICE, France – May 16 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Leading software solution providers, IBM, Pantero, Ceon, and telecom I.T. services firm, Patni, today announced the successful demonstration of the use of the TMF’s Shared Information/Data Model (SID) to radically simplify the integration of OSS/BSS components in a Catalyst project presented at the Telemanagement World conference in Nice, France from May 16 to 19. The Catalyst demonstrates integration across both non-standard and OSS Through Java Initiative (OSS/J) Interfaces using commercial integration technologies in conjunction with the SID to reduce the costs, risks and timelines associated with OSS/BSS solutions deployment.
TeleManagement Forum’s (TMF) Business Agility Catalyst Project, sponsored by Covad Communications, France Telecom, and Internap brought the four vendor/services partners together to show how the incorporation of industry standard models with commercial tooling, integration software, and standardized services methods reduces integration costs and project durations for complex OSS implementations. The project is based on a DSL service fulfillment scenario.
“The high costs and lengthy deployment times associated with integrating OSS applications are impacting the ability of service providers to quickly respond to market changes and customer demands,” said Jeff Davies, Director of Architecture and Standards for Covad Communications. “The speed and ease with which the integration effort was completed in this project is directly related to the use of SID, standard interfaces, and commercial integration technologies. As solution providers adopt standard information models and standard application interfaces, they will help service providers significantly increase their ability to expose the OSS as a collection of services that can be shared more effectively by various parts of the business.”
“The Catalyst program is about utilizing the TM Forum’s standards and guidelines to enable a real world view of how multi-vendor solutions work. Successfully leveraging the SID to simplify integration and promote re-use in this project exemplifies the benefits of the program,” said Martin Creaner, Vice President and CTO, TM Forum. “The industry is clearly increased interest in the SID. The Business Agility Catalyst makes an important contribution, demonstrating both the value of the SID for OSS/BSS integration, and the availability of required commercial tooling to ensure practical usage of standards like the SID, OSS/J, and MTOSI (multi-technology operations system interface) for service providers.”
The Business Agility Catalyst implemented a design developed collaboratively by IBM, Pantero, Ceon and Patni. The Catalyst leveraged IBM’s WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation for process orchestration, Pantero’s software for lifecycle management of the SID model and data validation, Ceon’s software as the core service activation platform, and Patni’s expert telecom I.T. services for implementation.
