SUNRISE, FL – May 30 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Interim HealthCare Inc., the nation’s largest provider of home health care and supplemental staffing, announced the winner of the national Interim HomeStyle Hero Award for 2006. Phyllis Dennis, Personal Care Assistant, from Greenville, South Carolina was the recipient of the national award which recognizes a home health aide who best represents the character traits that make up a hero such as honesty, experience, integrity and dependability. As the winner, she receives a $500 award.
Interim HomeStyle Services is the company’s brand name for non-medical home care services. The Interim HomeStyle Hero award is unique in that each nominee was asked to obtain a client testimonial providing reasons why their caregiver should be recognized as a HomeStyle Hero. Sixty-five Home Health Aides, Companions and Personal Care Assistants from Interim offices throughout the country were nominated for this prestigious award by their clients and home care supervisors. Testimonials were received by clients ranging from trust advisors, spouses and parents of the person receiving care to the actual individual receiving home care-the majority of them seniors who rely on Home Health Aides for personal care assistance so they can remain living independently at home.
Interim HealthCare client and father of Daniel of Greenville, SC stated in his testimonial, “I never worry one minute about Daniel when he is in Phyllis’ care. Though he doesn’t talk, he and Phyllis have worked out a way to communicate. Whether he’s hungry, uncomfortable or just wants a hug, Phyllis has learned to read his needs and to meet them in a timely manner and with compassion. Homecare professionals have to do more than meet day to day care needs. They also have to be able to work with other family members. They have to find a way to fit in with the rhythm of the home. Phyllis does that without missing a beat. She is a joy to have around. She keeps us apprised of any changes in Daniel’s routine or behavior and notes any new ideas his teacher or therapists have.
Daniel is almost twenty-one now. Phyllis has been caring for him about eleven years. She has become a part of Daniel’s support team and a very real part of our family. We think she’s wonderful and can’t imagine our days without her. I can tell Daniel feels that way too when I see him sit up, reach for her and smile.”
Al Sorensen, President and CEO of Interim HealthCare Inc. states, “The HomeStyle Hero award was developed in 2002 initially as a way to recognize our valued employees who provide exceptional non-medical care and companionship in the home. Four years and over 200 client testimonials later, it has also become a way to hear what our patients and their families have to say about the daily care they receive. Some require personal care, transportation or medication reminders, others require friendly companionship. In any case, clients have expressed how their lives have been improved. Many clients also expressed a sense of security knowing that skilled care is also available, should it become necessary.” Mr. Sorensen continues, “The HomeStyle Hero award is always a difficult selection process, particularly this year with a record 65 outstanding nominations. We are proud that our caregivers are making such a difference in improving people’s lives.”
