RALEIGH, NC – Sept. 26 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Well known international best selling author Richard Pelzer addressed the Special Operations Command of the US Army in Raleigh NC. Attendees were Commanders, Sergeants Major, Senior Officers as well as Lt. General Kensinger. The Family Advocacy Conference was held to benefit some of our nation’s soldiers and provide an overwhelming acknowledgment of the stress and pressure these soldiers live with. Pelzer spoke for just about an hour to an intensely quite and attentive audience. Conference attendees as well as the limited amount of media that were allowed to attend were in awe as the speaker presented his life as a child, young adult and now as an international best selling author.

Pelzer opened with the following statement – “There is nothing on this earth equal to – No nation has any resource greater than – The potential of just one child.”

With that and his mild tone and yet “bearish” presence, Richard Pelzer told the soldiers, spouses local community leaders that “I’m not a survivor nor I am a victim of child abuse – I am simply tempered and made stronger from a fire that few truly understand.” Richard Pelzer grew up in Daly City California in the 1960’s through the early 1980’s in one of California’s most abusive households. Born fourth of five boys, Richard is one of five boys that beat the incredibly dismal odds as a severally abused child. Another family member previously published a portion of the Pelzer life in a 1995 international best seller.

Today, author Richard Pelzer provides a helpful an incredibly emotional inside look at the life of just one child living a nightmare most Americans find difficult to understand.

The Clarion Hotel conference room – State Capital in Raleigh – was filled as Pelzer spoke. “I’m here today to give you something tangible – something you can walk away with and remember for years to come.” Pelzer said as he relayed his reasons for taking year’s worth of private and emotional memoirs from a shelf in his home library to the shelves of book stores throughout the world.

The USA SOC (United States Army Special Operations Command) Fort Bragg NC sponsored the Family Advocacy Conference that benefits soldieries, spouses and their families.

Pelzer went on to acknowledge that many of our nations soldiers – and certainly the officers of the United States Army Special Operations Command – Fort Bragg NC, have issues and stress factors that few others in the world live with. Being able to deploy anywhere in the world in less than 4 hours, often with little information for the spouses left behind are among a few of them. Many of those soldiers, those officers who lead troops are the mothers, fathers, spouses and “bread winners” of the family.

“It was such an honor to have Richard attend,” said Ruth Barefoot, USASOC Family Readiness. “He’s helping to save lives,” said Alisha Sanders – Chief USASOC Family Readiness.

As the crowd left after Richard’s speech what took them even more by surprise were the over 100 copies of Richard’s first book – A Brother’s Journey – that were made available to any soldier who wanted one – free of charge and courtesy of the author.

Richard Pelzer will also speak at The Dianne DeVanna Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, The State Room, 60 State Street, Boston, MA on Thursday, September 29, 2005, 8:30 pm +/-

Author Richard Pelzer is currently scheduling other visits to similar organizations that promote and magnify family advocacy in the US military, local and national family advocacy organizations.
