CLEVELAND, Ohio, March 3, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Military Advanced Education (MAE) has awarded Lakewood College the designation of a Top Military-Friendly College in its 2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities, just released in print, and available online at http://www.mae-kmi.com/.
Among the attributes considered in evaluating this year’s institution for inclusion in the Guide are the flexibility of online learning options, extent of transfer credits accepted by degree level, on-campus ROTC, Servicemember Opportunity Colleges (SOC) participation, on-campus active duty/veteran assistance, the support provided to the families of servicemembers, faculty trained in veteran reintegration issues, presence on military installations, and full-time counselors trained in veteran-specific mental health concerns, to name but a few.
Lakewood College is a non-profit institution that specializes in on-line distance education for associate degree and diploma programs. Roughly 90 percent of the student body at Lakewood College is composed of active duty servicemembers, military spouses, and veterans.
President of Lakewood College and military veteran, Tanya Haggins believes that Lakewood College’s business standards and distance learning methodology fit well within the transient and sometimes hectic lives of servicemembers and their spouses.
“Most of our students are either military spouses, servicemembers, or veterans,” says Ms. Haggins, “The flexibility that distance education offers allows our students to prepare for the career of their dreams at their convenience.
Distance education has become very popular over the past few years. There are hundreds of schools throughout the nation that offer flexible learning alternatives. However, Ms. Haggins believes Lakewood Colleges stands out amongst the rest. “There are many other on-line schools out there,” says Haggins “but here, at Lakewood College, we understand the day-to-day challenges of servicemembers and their families. We pride ourselves on holding our students hand from enrollment, to graduation, and beyond.”
