FAIRMONT, W.Va., Sept. 8, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Backbone Security is pleased to announce the results of performance testing on the 1Gbps version of Backbone’s Steganography Analyzer Real-Time Scanner (StegAlyzerRTS) appliance conducted by a faculty-led team from Rochester Institute of Technology’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering.
The testing was designed and conducted to determine the ability of StegAlyzerRTS to detect artifacts and/or signatures of steganography applications within network traffic at a fixed line rate of 1Gbps and varying levels of activity measured as the number of concurrent sessions per second.
Artifacts are files associated with the steganography applications. Detecting an artifact of a steganography application would be an indication the trusted insider who downloaded the application is planning to use it for nefarious purposes such as stealing sensitive information.
Signatures of steganography applications are specific byte patterns left in a carrier file as a byproduct of embedding information in, or appending information to the carrier file. Detecting a signature of a steganography application is an indication the trusted insider used the application to hide sensitive information.
Artifacts would be detected in inbound network traffic with signatures detected in outbound network traffic.
For a wide variety of test conditions, including those with a sustained line rate of 1Gbps and a network load of 8,000 concurrent sessions per second, the StegAlyzerRTS consistently detected 100% of the artifacts presented to it.
“Based on this testing by RIT, we believe our enterprise class customers can be assured our one-of-a-kind real-time steganography detection appliance will handle the traffic on their gigabit networks,” said Bart Guerreri, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Backbone Security.
