Author Billy Pham Newsroom - Profile and News Archive
Billy Pham was an instructor at the University of Dalat (Vietnam) until 1971. He got a scholarship to study at the University of Oregon where he finished his Master of Sciences in 1973. During this time the US government signed the Paris Accord in Paris (French) to withdraw from Vietnam.
Mr. Pham decided to immigrate illegally to Canada. He arrived in Montreal with $300.00 in his pocket. It took him 7 years to settle his new life in Canada. Without capital and know-how of any business, Mr. Pham had dreamed of having his own business. By chance, he got involved in restaurants and began to open his first restaurant in 1980, after many failures he built up his first chain of 18 Vietnamese restaurants “Chez Lien”, then another chain of 6 restaurants (Thai Taste), and four high-end restaurants (Tamashi, Kyomi, Zen d Asie, and Soya).
Chez Lien earned Best Business Awards Gold Medal and Thai Taste earned Silver Medal in many consecutive years. The Gazette (the largest English newspaper) in Montreal named him the king of Vietnamese restaurants. In 2000 he reached his financial independence threshold, he stopped opening restaurants, except for pleasure and enjoying life.
During the Covid, bored with staying home and doing nothing; with the encouragement of friends, Mr. Pham started writing his restaurant journeys with the hope that his readers can learn and avoid the arduous roads that he went through. And here it is, his book: "Turn your Restaurant Know-How into Success & Growth."
