LAFAYETTE, LA — (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — TechSouth solidified its emergence as the premier technology conference in the Gulf South with the announcement of its five keynote speakers as well as a handful of the top seminar leaders who will be taking part in this year’s conference, which will be held in Lafayette on April 19-20, at the Cajundome Convention Center. The regional event is free for advanced registrants with minimal ticket prices for keynote-addressed luncheons.

Keynote speakers for the opening day of TechSouth include the opening address by William Vass, Chief Information Officer and Vice President, Information Technology, Sun Microsystems, Inc.; the CIO Luncheon Keynote by Dr. Eng Lim Goh, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI); and the “Talking Tech” address by Amy Wohl, President of Wohl Associates, a syndicated columnist and long-time industry observer.

On Wednesday April 20, Mark Marcin, Digital Artists Technical Trainer for Industrial Light + Magic, A Lucasfilm Ltd. Company, will open with the breakfast keynote address. The CEO Luncheon Keynote will be made by Anthony Townsend, Co-Founder of NYCwireless.

“In a time of tremendous competition for intellectual capital and talent, TechSouth has scored a tremendous coup,” said event chairman and CIO for Lafayette Consolidated Government, Keith Thibodeaux. “And with the recent announcement of the cancellation of COMDEX, regional technology events will see increased participation from global technologists and business leaders.”

In addition to the five keynote addresses, TechSouth features over 30 breakout sessions with noted technologists including the following:

* Paul McNamara, Senior Vice President and General Manager of SGI’s Visual Systems Group

* Daniel Berg, Chief Technology Officer for Sun Microsystems Support Services

* Dr. Magdy Bayoumi, Director, Center for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Louisiana at Lafayette

* Dr. Edward Seidel, Director of the Center for Computation & Technology, LSU

* Tom Pertzborn, Central Regional Manager for Microsoft CRM

* Barry Thornton, Co-Founder and CTO of ClearCube Technology

Most events have one speaker of this caliber to be considered a show worth attending. TechSouth’s 2005 list of keynote speakers alone would be reason enough to attend. Add to that the more than 30 seminar tracks and speakers and there is just no reason to stay away. If you are interested in technology, where it’s heading and what it means for business and communities, TechSouth is the place to be in April.

“TechSouth offers the opportunity to share ideas,” said Anthony Robbins, president of SGI and senior vice president of SGI North American Field Operations. “We think that there is a lot of opportunity for IT, in general, in the Gulf Coast region,” Robbins said via a recent phone conference.

TechSouth’s seminar tracks cover a range of topics including Mobility, High Performance Computing, IT Security, Business Solutions, Digital Tools & the Creative Arts, Broadband Applications, the Digital Divide and GIS Technologies and Applications.

Doug Menefee, a TechSouth volunteer, said the keynote addresses are designed for a wider audience, not just “techies,” but business and political leaders as well.
