NAZARETH, PA (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The first question many consumers have asked is, “What’s a Studdabubba?” In Eastern Europe, a “studdabubba” is a grandma, or literally, “old woman.” The brand is based on old world recipes developed by the grandmother of the owner of the company. Each package of the snack food line will feature her portrait-quietly smiling beneath a pair of wire rim glasses in the late 1950’s.

Brands based on “real people” recipes have maintained a special popularity within the consumer products ranks. When an immigrant grandma is the driving force behind the recipe, Stephens hopes that purchase intent increases sharply. *(Photo Caption: Packaging for Studdabubba’s snack food brand.)

The Stephens’ Original Foods Company is also hoping that the quirky Slavic brand name will generate consumer interest. When the first cases of product rolled into the warehouse, workers initially made fun of the name, but continued to repeat it throughout their shift. By the end of the day, everyone was a “studdabubba,” proving that the name had a catchy, contagious feel to it.

The Studdabubba’s line will focus on popular but underdeveloped snack categories, with special attention on consumer value and taste. The first Studdabubba’s item to hit retail stores is a 6 ounce bag of caramel corn. “Product quality is our first priority,” Stephens says, owner and president of The Stephens’ Original Foods Company. “The recipe calls for big, full kernels, heavily coated with molasses and sugar, yielding a sweet, very crunchy product.” The brand will also feature a sweet Kettle Corn, expected to hit retail shelves in November.

Studdabubba’s is enjoying early distribution in several Pennsylvania and New Jersey grocery chains. Initial sales were so brisk, 20-case displays sold down within 2 days. “The package allows for 100% product visibility,” Stephens says, referring to the poly bag. “The more traditional ‘tubs’ don’t allow consumers to see what they’re purchasing. Our Studdabubba’s package offers consumers a full view of the product they’re purchasing.”

In addition to Studdabubba’s, The Stephens’ Original Foods Company owns Bookbinder’s Soups and Seasonings, and also does business as Lehigh Valley Snack Distributors, a Wise Snack Foods master distributor for Northeast Pennsylvania and Northwest New Jersey. The company is based in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.
