KEY WEST BECOMES THE NEXT LAS VEGAS WITH STARS
Key West, FL -- (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE via PRNetwire) -- February 12, 2002 -- Former "Full House" actor turned Las Vegas star Brian Evans is doing something in Key West that nobody has dared do before.
He's bringing in the stars. The really big stars.
Evans has started "Brian Evans - Live in Key West," and each month he brings in a new star to appear as his "special guest star." In March, it's none other than the biggest name in Las Vegas and clearly the last great giant to roam the town, Wayne Newton.
"I wanted to make a statement that I am serious about what I'm doing down here," says Evans.
In June, the legendary saxophone player Clarence Clemons from Bruce Springsteen's "E-Street Band" is the special guest.
And the stars are listening.
"It's a great idea. We find out what acts are already playing in Miami, and then we fly them to Key West for an appearance ranging from 5 minutes to the entire show," says Evans, who also produces the series.
Evans has his sights on everyone from K.D. Lang to Elton John. The Godfather of Soul, James Brown will perform a concert in July with Evans on the bill..
"Up until now, Key West has been known as the party haven for college kids and 'parrotheads' that follow Jimmy Buffet around. Buffet obviously is the guy that put Key West on the map, but people want more. That's what we intend to give them and tourists alike. When they aren't swimming, snorkeling or fishing, we're going to provide them with an opportunity to see star name talent on Duval Street," says Evans.
National companies have already been emailing the company, Crooner, Inc., in an effort to sponsor what will be the only real entertainment game in town, and clearly the biggest.
"It's not like we're inviting these people to Fargo. Key West is an opportunity to vacation, sing for a few minutes, and make a city happy to see them for simply a cameo appearance during Brian's 90 minute show, which is the same show he performed when he appeared at The Desert Inn in Las Vegas for two years," says assistant Justin Reimer.
"Brian Evans - Live in Key West" - The Celebrity Series, begins March 10th with a special cameo by the legendary Las Vegas titan, Wayne Newton.
"I want to leave people with a real moment," says Evans. "When I saw Sinatra perform in 1993, I never forgot it. I want acts like that to drop in, someone you will never forget seeing, even if it's just to watch them perform one song."
