Skyline's 3D Interactive World Gateway Fuses-on-the-Fly MrSID® Raster Data to Deliver a Dynamic Virtual View of the World Shared Across the Web
WOBURN, MA - July 26, 2004 /Send2Press Newswire/ -- Skyline Software Systems, Inc.
(www.skylinesoft.com), the pioneer of the 3D Interactive World Gateway, selects
LizardTech's new compression and decompression technology to embed into its
commercial software line, TerraSuite. Just as Skyline's 3D technology serves as the
de-facto standard in the 3D visualization network-centric industry, LizardTech's
MrSID wavelet image format has long been a leading de-facto standard in geospatial
applications.
The new MrSID SDK is now embedded into TerraSuite, which enables Skyline's 3D World
Gateway to directly access MrSID compressed raster formats. This expands Skyline's
existing capability to effectively access, fuse on the fly and disseminate massive
amounts of geospatial data (e.g. imagery, terrain elevation, spatial features, GPS)
in multiple formats, delivering in real-time, one coherent dynamic virtual world
gateway over the Internet.
Users can interactively view, simultaneously share (e.g.
lead on-line group at multiple locations through a virtual tour) and thoroughly
analyze spatial information. Various applications of this World Gateway include
traffic analysis, network build-out, urban planning, real estate and even Mars
exploration.
"To effectively deliver a 3D World Gateway from multiple, huge data sets across the
network is the key," states Ronnie Yaron, President and Co-founder of Skyline
Software Systems. "Embedding LizardTech's MrSID image compression technology enables
our customers to retrieve and visualize in 3D, imagery data stored as MrSID files
without a need to pre-process the data."
"With MrSID, millions of GIS professionals worldwide enjoy fast, efficient access to
geospatial imagery and aerial photography," explains Karen Morley, LizardTechs vice
president of global marketing. "With LizardTech's MrSID format integrated in
Skyline's TerraSuite, users can instantly access enormous geospatial imagery via the
Internet or any size network."
Just as MrSID is the first and only wavelet image format to be adopted as standard
by nearly all Department of Defense agencies, TerraSuite was the first and only
network-centric 3D interactive visualization software selected by National
Geospatial Intelligence Agency, Army, Marines and Special Operations Command to
support joint mission preparation and operations in urban and littoral environments.
