Dot-com band demonstrates music business model without record label support
RALEIGH, NC - Oct 11, 2004 /Send2Press Newswire/ -- Recording duo Request-A-Song.com (RAS) announced today the launch of their completely redesigned eponymous website (www.request-a-song.com). The relaunch coincides with Request-A-Song.com's second anniversary of writing, recording, and publishing original songs based on the inspiration of thousands of Internet users worldwide. In two years, RAS has released 116 original songs online in MP3 format, 62 of which are currently available for free download on the site. The rest are available in a higher quality MP3 format for US 88 cents apiece.
Request-A-Song.com, as a band and as a site, has quickly gained recognition on the Internet for their novel approach to writing and publishing new music. Raleigh, NC, USA-based brothers Benj and Jeremy Edwards write and record new, original songs inspired by website visitor suggestions then publish them online. The songs released over the last two years run the gamut from the wacky to the well-crafted, mostly catchy piano- and guitar-based pop rock pieces running under three and a half minutes. The band's catalog also includes forays into experimental music, rap, folk, and country genres.
Popular songs on the site include "Violent House Panda," "My Dad Thinks I'm Gay," and "Butter Ghost." Most of the song titles and subject matter were directly inspired by selections from a pool of over 5,000 song suggestions, or "requests," the brothers have received since RAS's introduction in 2002. Those who submit requests must sign a release that allows RAS to use their submissions without fear of legal trouble.
