HAYWARD, Calif. - December 1, 2004 /Send2Press Newswire/ -- The Pentecostal Methodist Evangelical World Missions Board (PMEWMB - www.pmewmb.com), under the leadership of Harvard Divinity School SLI alums Chairman Bishop Willie Anderson and Vice-Chair Bishop Jeptah Aniceto, has partnered with Nestle Philippines Inc. to aid in Philippine President Arroyo's vision for more agri-business development.
"Livelihood for 10 Million Filipinos must be addressed. A thriving agri-business must be pushed in the rural areas," said Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
PMEWMB, which oversees more than 500 churches, 4000 acres of land and 2,000 Filipino farmers in the Philippines, has developed a cooperative coffee and cash crop program with Nestle. The project includes coffee harvesting and trading of 30,000 metric tons of coffee annually over the next several years.
"Three fourths of the world is in poverty. This is caused by the lack of accessibility and opportunity. PMEWMB Philippine partnership with Nestle will change this for many," said Bishop Aniceto, Vice Chairman, PME BOARD MBA, MPHIL and MDIV.
Profits will be used to plant churches, support mission projects, build hospitals and fund for profit business ventures to support struggling churches worldwide. PMEWMB and Nestle's relationship is one of the largest partnerships between a religious board and secular business in the Philippines. Over the next three years this project looks to create over 100,000 coffee industry jobs alone.
Currently, Nestle is requiring PMEWMB to secure the project with $100,000 for corporate fees and insurance by the beginning of December or this kingdom opportunity will be lost for the church.
According to the board, "PMEWMB is seeking mission-minded people to stand with us at this critical hour. The souls of thousands stand in the balance."
"Nestle Philippines Inc. is committed to support coffee plantation development in the Philippines so we welcome {PMEWMB} planned implementation of a livelihood program based on coffee," said Glicerio joel lumagbas, Head - Agricultural Services Department Assistant Vice-President Nestle Philippines, Inc.
