READERS RADIO FILLS VOID LEFT BY AMAZON GIVING BOOK BUYERS SOME NEW CHOICES THIS SHOPPING SEASON
E-Commerce Enabled Virtual Book Tours Promise A Better Way To Buy And Sell Books
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Nov. 20, 2002 /Send2Press Newswire/ -- JackStreet Media and ePublicEye announced today that they have teamed to launch Readers Radio Network (www.readersradionetwork.com), a site billed as a better way to buy and sell books. Instead of relying on third party reviews, Readers Radio allows readers to meet the author through "on demand" streaming audio interviews. By listening to the author discuss the book, readers can determine for themselves whether they are sufficiently impressed with the author's perspective and ideas to make a purchase. If readers like what they hear, they can buy the book directly from the author at discounts between 10-60%.
The program uses e-commerce enabled Virtual Books Tours(tm) to sell directly to readers. Shoppers can get an additional discount by sending the radio interview to a friend via email. To address concerns about Amazon's privacy policy, Readers Radio offers a firm privacy policy that assures consumers that neither their personal information nor their book purchasing or browsing records will be shared or sold.
"As any publishing insider will tell you it isn't necessarily the best books that make it to the top of the New York Times best sellers list," says Errol Smith program director for Readers Radio. "We see a huge disconnect in the market place as readers overlook some really insightful books and the ideas of many really astute authors never see the light of day. We took aim at the problem and set out to develop a better way to buy and sell books. Early response to Readers Radio has increased our confidence that we are spearheading a new book buying and selling model that may one day be embraced by the largest of booksellers," says Smith.
The model was developed then refined by consulting with hundreds of authors, publishers and book buyers. Dan Poynter, a thirty-year veteran of the publishing industry and past vice-president of the Publishers Marketing Association was helpful in refining the model. Robert Spector, author of The Nordstrom Way, and 'Amazon.com: Get Big Fast,' was also instrumental in shaping the program. "A Virtual Book Tour on the Readers Radio Network is a very inexpensive, and effective way to promote your book and should be included in your overall book promotion strategy," said Dan Poynter.
The Readers Radio Program and its fall catalog was launched with twenty five titles and is adding new authors Monthly. "Our Goal is not to 'out Amazon' Amazon.com, but to fill a space that Amazon.com has been disinterested in to this point," said Smith.
