UNCONVENTIONAL MP3 WEBSITE, REQUEST-A-SONG.COM, RELEASES 76 ORIGINAL SONGS IN ITS FIRST YEAR ONLINE
Nearly All Songs Based On Website Visitor Suggestions
RALEIGH, NC - (Send2Press Newswire) - Oct. 1, 2003 -- Request-A-Song.com
(RAS) announced today that it has released 76 original songs in its first
year online, almost all of which are based on suggestions submitted by
visitors to the site. Each of the 76 songs is available for free download
in MP3 format on the website (www.request-a-song.com). RAS, which opened
its virtual doors October 1st, 2002, is celebrating its first anniversary
of writing, recording, and publishing original music based on the input of
Internet users worldwide.
The songs released over the course of the year run the gamut from the
wacky to the well-crafted, mostly catchy piano- and guitar-based pop rock
pieces running under three and a half minutes. The site's catalog also
includes forays into experimental music, rap, folk, and country genres.
Popular songs on the site include "My Dad Thinks I'm Gay," "Violent House
Panda," and "(Nobody Owns) The Center of The Earth." Most of the songs'
titles and subject matter were directly inspired by selections from a pool
of over 2000 song suggestions, or "requests," the site has received since
its introduction, last fall.
Visitors to the site submit song requests consisting of proposed song
titles or other interesting phrases. The RAS songwriters then read the
requests, and if one appeals to them, they will write and record a song
based on the request, then publish it on the site in MP3 format, adding a
new song at least every Wednesday. The resulting songs usually turn out
more interesting than anticipated, as the songwriters try to take an
unexpected angle on the ideas they receive.
"We like to continuously challenge our skills at creating new music," says
RAS creator and head songwriter Benj Edwards, "We did it before we
started the site, but the Internet has let us take it to new heights, and
has allowed us to reach a global audience with music whose distribution
was formerly confined to the tiny room I call my studio."
