For Surviving Spouses of Iraq War Heroes, Matthew Lesko Says Help is On the Way
NEW YORK, NY - February 6, 2004 /Send2Press Newswire/ -- Matthew Lesko (www.lesko.com), best-selling
author and world renowned expert on accessing little-known government resources announced today that he
will offer his services free to surviving spouses of fallen U.S. troops in Iraq to help them access the
benefits they're entitled to, but may not know about.
"There are billions of dollars in services -- from housing assistance to no interest loans, to health
care assistance and help with burial expenses -- just waiting for surviving spouses to claim," says
Lesko, author of 'Information USA' and 'Free Money to Change Your Life,' among other titles. "The
government doesn't advertise these benefits, however, and so people just don't know about them. I've
hired a research staff to help them get everything they're entitled to," he adds.
Here are just a few of the death benefits provided to surviving spouses
and children of U.S. service members:
- A $12,000 tax-exempt death gratuity.
- Rent-free government housing for 180 days, or the tax- free basic allowance for housing for
any portion of the 180-day period if not living in government housing.
- $250,000 through the Servicemen's Group Life Insurance Program; a government-sponsored
insurance program, if they did not decline or reduce benefits, or fail to make payments.
"The victims of 9/11 received an average of $1.8 million each," Lesko said in a recent interview.
"Sometimes the families of our fallen soldiers in Iraq don't get quite the same amount of attention. We
have people dying for this country and their families deserve every little benefit this country has to
offer. I want to show these widows other government programs like: grants to pay for down payments and
closing costs for a new home, money to start a business or go back to school, or free health care not
covered by defense programs."
Matthew Lesko "The Guru of Government Giveaways" is the author of over 100 books on government money
and how to get it, including two New York Times best sellers and two 'Best Reference Book of the Year'
awards from the American Library Association. In addition, Matthew Lesko is a syndicated columnist for
Good Housekeeping Magazine and The New York Times Syndicate.
